Maximize the impact of your support while unlocking potential tax benefits through strategic giving. Sigal Music Museum accepts these contributions:
The Sigal Music Museum is a Section 501(c)(3) organization, which means that your financial contributions are tax deductible. Your check can be made payable to the Sigal Music Museum and dropped off or mailed to 516 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601. Please include a gift notation and an address so we can send a receipt.
If you are age 70 1/2 or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to the museum. A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is an otherwise taxable distribution from an IRA (excluding ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRAs) that is paid directly to a qualified charity and excluded from your taxable income. Your financial advisor can help you with this simple way to contribute. Be sure your name and address are included with your donation.
If you are age 73 or older and are required to take an annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA, 401(k), SEP-IRA or other retirement plan, you can donate directly from your account to the museum. The donation will count toward and help you satisfy your RMD, the donated withdrawal is treated as a QCD, and it becomes tax-free. Check with your financial advisor to learn more about this valuable tax benefit. Make sure your gift includes your name and address.
Gifting shares of stock is another way you can support the museum. Contributing an appreciating asset can be of great benefit to the museum as the donation may result in a larger gift over time. A gift of appreciated securities (held for at least one year and one day) can provide you with a beneficial tax advantage as well, reducing or even eliminating federal capital gains tax on the transfer of the securities and possibly entitling you to an income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the securities at the time of transfer. We are always available to discuss this option with you.
Have you considered making a bequest to the museum in your will or living trust? Through appropriate language in these documents, you can donate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after all other provisions are fulfilled. Your gift may be unrestricted and thus used by the museum to meet any need, or you may prefer to make a restricted gift for a particular purpose. Consult your attorney and work with us for assistance in making a legacy gift to the museum.
