PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
QUALIFICATIONS
APPLICATION PROCESS
During the three-month period, the intern(s) will work on translating exhibit descriptions from English to Spanish, French, Chinese, or German. The translated text will be used to create a voice recording to be heard by visitors as they tour the museum.
- 12-week, full-time unpaid internship
- Ownership of challenging and impactful project
- Work with other interns and museum staff
- Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, including networking opportunities
- Participate in volunteer projects and social events
Internships are non-paid and should be coordinated with an advisor at your college or university if you would like to receive class credit. 10+ onsite hours are required, including some weekends & evening concerts.
Education
Student(s) pursuing a degree within the Modern Language Department
Strong linguistic skills:
- Translates with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness
- Strong writing skills and understanding of the translation process
- Selects the appropriate mode of translation for each situation
- Self-corrects, understands own linguistic limitations, seeks clarification, and accepts correction
- Understands language as an expression of culture and uses culturally appropriate text
Organizational skills:
- Flexible to meet scheduling needs
- Sound judgment and confidence
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Detail-oriented and accurate
- Demonstrated project management skills with a proven ability to set and meet project deadlines
- Solid writing, planning, and communication skills
